public service messages
Mar 31
There is no method of asking someone to do something quite as insincere as a public service message. There's nothing that feels as demeaning than having to obey a prerecorded text.
it seems pretty obvious, but public transport operator, smrt in particular, can't seem to grasp it. Or is it just me who feels this way? 'please move to the centre of the car' in that contrived mechanical tone. Why do a voice recording that sounds vaguely machine-like? If u're going to use a human voice, at least make it seem like a real person did it, not some ambiguous barely homonoid twitter.
on buses, they use signs to ask people to move to the back to make space for more passengers. Even that feels less irritating than the mrt voice trying to tell u what to do. I wonder if its just me.
perhaps the mechanical lady-voice is the result of the multi-faceted society, each so distinct from the next that there couldn't possibly be a representative tone to cover all aspects of it.
or perhaps the voice is exactly how smrt would sound like if it had a voice. Cold, mechanical and fake with all the necessary politeness of a public address message
